About Islam
About Islam
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent and Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Universe.
May Allah Shower his blessing on Prophet Mohammed (SWAW) and his progeny.
What is Islam?
The word "Islam" (is-lahm) an Arabic word means to surrender, submit oneself to another. It also means Peace. In the religion of Islam we submit, surrender ourselves to the will of the Lord of the Universe (God).
One who does this is considered a Muslim.
Mentioned in the Qur'an as follows:
- "Say: verily my prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death, (are all, only) for God, the Lord of the worlds," (6:163)
- "And who is better in religion than he who resigneth himself entirely unto God? and is righteous, and followeth the creed of Abraham, the Upright One, and God took Abraham for a Friend." (4:125)
Belief in One God:
Any logic would imply that there is no other Creator except God.
Reasoning: Lets take the phenomena of Cause and Effect. There has to be a Cause (A force that produces or contributes) to an effect (result). As such one can not dispute that an Effect (existence of a being) could not occur from a non-being. If it were true that a Cause was due to a non-being then that being (Effect) would be dependent on itself and not on its composite part. Thus no being can be self-existing or be based on a non-being (a non-composite nature).
The
reasoning of Cause and Effect can be applied to establish the Oneness
of God. A being is totally dependent on One, because if there were to
be more than one causative being the reasoning of Cause and Effect
would be null and void (against scientific investigation). If you have
more than one cause, then which of the those causes controls the other,
or dictates how many to be, or how they maybe joined or united. As such
one must agree that the components will ultimately have one that is
independent, and indivisible to any other component to be able to exert
Absolute Authority over all the others.
Qur'an:
A book with the Final Word from God revealed to Prophet Mohammed (SWAW).
This Final Word has been guaranteed to withstand tampering or meddling of any sort by God (Allah). Promising to maintain the originality, arrangement, completeness and security of this book.
- "Verily We have sent down the reminder (the Qur'an), and verily We (Ourself) unto it will certainly be the Guardian." (15:9)
- "On Us is its (Qur'an's) compilation, its recitation and its explanation."
There were many religious scriptures revealed before the Holy Qur'an. They all have suffered alterations, additions and subtractions and some have gone extinct.
One example can be taken from the book Evangel (Arabic: Injeel). This word of God revealed to Jesus is no longer available to anyone today. This book is merely a compilation of stories based on Jewish folklore, bringing forth many versions of the text.
The Holy Prophet (SWAW) only spoke words that were revealed from the Lord. This is also declared in the Holy Qur'an:
- "And nor he speaketh of (his own) inclination; it (the working) is naught but a revelation revealed (unto him)." (53:3-4)
Ancient scriptures:
- "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear 'that Prophet', shall be destroyed from among the people." Old Testament - The Acts
- "How be it, when the Spirit of Truth is come, he will guide you unto all truth for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; he will show you things to come." New Testament - John 16:13
Mohammed the Last Messenger:
In Islam we believe that only God can grant knowledge and guidance, as explained through cause and effect; One Supreme Being without which we would not exist. God created mankind and started the process of apostleship (Risalat: Guidance for mankind).
God provided an apostle (total 124,000) for every race and every corner of the world in the language that was spoken by the people of the land.
- "And for every people (was sent) an apostle; and when can their apostle, the matter between them was decided with equity and they shall not (in the least) be done (any) injustice." (10:47)
- "And indeed raised We iin every nation an apostle (of Ours) (preaching) that 'Worship ye God (only) and shun ye (the worship of ever kind of) idol,' so of them were some whom God guided, and of them were others on whom error was confirmed; Therefore travel ye in the earth, then see what hath been the end of the beliers." (16:36)
Of these many apostles Prophet Mohammed was the Last as professed by all the other scriptures sent before the Qur'an.
Old Testament:
- "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee of they brethren, like unto me, unto him ye shall hearken," Deut 18:25
- "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren and will put My words into his mouth, and he shall speak unot them all that I shall command him."
- "And it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hearken unto My words which he shall speak in My name I shall require it of him." Deut 18:18 & 19
New Testament: (Holly Prophet Jesus also mentioned the advent of Prophet Mohammed)
- "I will pray theFather and he will give you another Comforter that he may abide with you for ever." John 14:16
- "Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away the Comforter will not ome unot you, nd if I depart, I will send him unot you. And when he is come he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of Judgement."John 16: 7 & 8
- "But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom theFather will send in my nmae he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your rememberance whatever I have said unto you." John 15:25
Qur'an: Which also professess that Prophet Mohammed will speak on the word on God.
- "He (our Apostle Mohammed) speaketh not by hemself but only that which hath been conveyed to him by revelation." (53:3-4)
Declaration that Prophet Mohammed is the last prophet and why:
- "Mohammed is not the father of any of your men, but an Apostle of God and the Seal of the prophets; An God is of all things - ever the Knower." (33:40)
- "This day have I perfected for you, your religion, and have completed my favour on you, and chosen for you ISLAM (to be) the Religion."
