Obligatory Salats: Solar Eclipse or Lunar Eclipse (partial or complete), Earthquake, Thunder and ligntning, red and black cyclone and other similar celestial phenomena, which firghtens most of the people; similarly for the terrestrial events like receding sea water, or falling mountains which engender fear in these circumstances, as per recommended precaution, Namaz-e-Ayaat should be offered. (Islamic Laws; Ayatullah Seestani)

Each individual event requires you to recite Namaz-e-Ayaat even if multiple events occur together and only the residents of the town that experiences these events need to perform this Obligatory namaz.

Timing: The duration of the eclipse, after the eclipse is over the namaz is read as qadha.

Method: Consists of two Rak'ats, with five Ruku in each. Start the prayer as you would normally. In the first Rak'at after reciting Surah al-Hamd and another surah perform the Ruku. After completing the Ruku stand and recite Surah al-Hamd and another Surah and again perform Ruku. Continue this till you have done five Rukus and then performe two Sajdahs. Thereafter repeat this entire sequence in the second Rak'at and complete your namaz. All things that are obligatory and Mustahab in daily prayers are also obligatory and Mustahab in Namaz-e-Ayaat. If Namaz-e-Ayaat is offered in congregation, one may say 'As-salaat' three times in place of Adhan and Iqamah.
